Throwing it back to last month’s @leagueoforiginals event in Toronto!

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here… I remember attending this event months after not attending any gathering with other fellow entrepreneurs. It felt like I was all alone just in my own world going through the motions and not really making much progress with Dodo.

Being at the League of Originals with other entrepreneurs kinda shifted things for me mentally, in the right direction. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words but there’s just a spark of magic that happens when entrepreneurs/founders/business owners gather together to network and share ideas to help each other. It seems that was the ⚡️ I just needed!

Lesson: Never underestimate the power of community.

To all the founders, entrepreneurs and business owners out there grinding - I see you and I stand strong with you. And to all the customers, friends, fans, supporters and encouragers - I say a big thank you!

You’ll be pleasantly surprised just like our friend in this video

Recipe:
✅ 1 cup dodo plantain slices (frozen)
✅ 1 cup mixed berry blend (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry)
✅ 2 cups almond milk or oat milk
✅ 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Combine all ingredients together in a blender and enjoy 😋

Happy Mother’s Day! 💐

My mother has a truly special place in my heart ♥️

I’m reminded of a time about 7 years ago…
I was studying for the GMAT exam with the hopes of getting a good enough score to apply for business school. Some hours before the test, my mum sends me a message praying for my success and wishing me well on the exam before catching her flight. About an hour before the test I remember going into the test centre feeling nervous and unsure of how I would do.

Five hours after, I was done and came out completely flunking the test. I felt horrible and really discouraged, especially cause this was my 3rd attempt taking that test within a 2-year time period. The next day was a Saturday and my mum arrives into Toronto.

She was already scheduled to fly in that Saturday months ago…

Anyway I go pick her up from the airport, we hug and we’re both excited to see each other. A few minutes into the car ride home she asks how I did on the test. And I told her right there that I failed 😞

What she did next was completely unexpected…

She immediately spoke some powerful, encouraging and uplifting words to me and told me that she’ll even pay the fee so I could write the test again, and continued encouraging me.

To put it in context, 7 years ago I was already an adult working, making decisions on my own and paying for my stuff - she didn’t need to do any of this.

I know she could sense my morale was down
And I think I shed a tear or two during that ride home cause I was so moved by how she was able to turnaround a shitty moment for me and lift my spirits, now feeling empowered and truly cared for…

There have been countless other moments and experiences I’ve had in life where my mother comes in and supports me in completely unexpected ways. Without me ever asking for her help

But God knows we all need people like that in our lives that are always ever-ready and willing to help, guide, support and love us no matter what. I can only hope that everyone has someone like that in their life

If that’s your mum or you have a mother figure like that in your life.

Please take some time out this week to let them know you truly appreciate them.

Come with me to the RC Show!

We were at the RC Show last week and boy was it a blast! 💥🎉 Dodo Foods held things down at the Black Experience Pavilion which was put together by @foodpreneurlab and @trscoalition. Both amazing organizations that are dedicated to increasing the representation of Black-owned food businesses across the foodbev industry.

While I was there I had a chance to meet up with my fellow FPL entrepreneurs and network with other industry people and talk about all things food and hospitality! Also had lots of time to eat (very important), and connect with chefs and foodies alike.

The whole experience was nothing short of remarkable! And to top it off, we closed out the final day taking home the award for Best First Time Booth at the RC Show! 🎖️🏆

Super grateful for all the folks that made this happen for us. Our community here is very strong, and it’s only getting stronger by the day.
